So, And you Believe You Have A Free Choice On The News You Get? - Infographic

It seems like in today’s world there are fewer and fewer people making choices for the greater good. What I mean to say is that everything in our world seems to be able to be consolidated. The media of course is no exception to this trend with only 6 major companies dictating about 90% of the media we have access to.

With the Internet there is a freedom of choice as there are enough blogs, sites, and YouTube channels to avoid the 6 media giants. Listed in the graphic are American media outlets. You have the freedom to Google media outlets from many other countries. This is just the same as your freedom to drink a good craft beer and avoid a watered down Bud Light, to avoid McDonald's in favor of a home cooked styled meal from a small mom and pop restaurant, and the freedom to use the Internet to find music you like rather then be force fed your choices through American Idol. The illusion is created because a majority of everyone are willing to follow what is fed to them. Free choice exists, you just have to be willing to look for it.

Lance Armstrong Faces New Doping Charges – NYTimes.com

Lance Armstrong Faces New Doping Charges – NYTimes.com.

These allegations have been ongoing for years against Lance Armstrong.  Guilty or not he has been humiliated enough with the recycled testimony of the so called anonymous former teammates.  I can go on and on about the good he has done for cancer patients and cancer research itself, but that isn’t what bothers me.

What bothers me most is the amount of time the government has spent on investigating Lance Armstrong, as well as several other athletes like Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds.  At some point the government just needs to put these supposed charges to rest and move on, which should have happened long ago.

So many other riders were found guilty well within a year of charges being brought against them.  But this has gone on long enough.  Floyd Landis was caught and stripped almost immediately of his Tour de France title and is pretty much wrecked his career, along with a bum hip.

If you have solid proof, use it, but if you don’t stop dancing around every year or two that you have new charges.  How much have these investigations cost the tax payers?  I am tired of hearing about this beer can that contains contaminated evidence Clemens doped.  Did someone save Lance’s lost testical inside a bottle of FRS?

If the government presses on with investigating because of Lance’s previous affiliation with the United States Postal Service, then I have to ask why was there no government audits of where the money was going to?  That is a problem of the government anyways, they do not audit their money trail very well.  So, lets backtrack and clean up after ourselves by spending probably as much money as they paid to the USPS cycling team as they are spending on the legal costs of all of the investigating.

We all know guys like Lance Armstrong and Roger Clemens are a-holes, but lets cut them a break for once and spend that money on more useful things, like helping starving kids eat, paving the way for an improved economy, or paying off your government debts.  Instead the government should create better audit trails, support the improvement of drug testing, and other stopgaps that could prevent future messes like the ones they are caught up in now.

Verizon to Phase Out Most Existing Phone Plans

Reblogged from Business & Money:

NEW YORK — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest cellphone company, is phasing out nearly all of its existing phone plans and replacing them with pricing schemes that encourage customers to connect their non-phone devices, like tablets and PCs, to the Verizon network.

Verizon is making a massive change to their plans allowing a single data plan to cover multiple devices. This should save families money with multiple phones, and will also encourage those considering wi-fi only devices to make the jump to pricier 4G models. So in some way or another they hope to attract more customers who spend just as much, if not more than they currently do by adding on the data plans to their cellular services. How will AT&T and other services follow?

Owning Your Content In Search: Google Now Makes It Easier To Link Your Website To G+

Reblogged from TechCrunch:

Last year, Google announced an initiative to give authors on the Web greater ownership over their content and more visibility in search. Google Authorship, as its known, has changed consistently since launch, as the company experiments with the best ways to authenticate authors and give them proper attribution.

Unfortunately, up to this point, the authentication process has been fairly convoluted. …

Own your content in a search by adding and linking your website to your Google+ page. I just did it. You can see the link in the right hand column. This will supposedly help your site in Google searches. Lots of linking going on and some how it will help your website out. This linking feature also makes you eligible for Google+ Direct Connect, which means you can search Google for this page as +WavesandTidings and the Google+ page will appear, if only I am so lucky to get Google's blessing.

Kickstarter is an innovative platform that helps entrepreneurs get funding needed for product development, but according to a new infographic, almost half of Kickstarter projects fail.

The infographic, created by AppsBlogger.com, looked at a total of 45,815 Kickstarter projects and nearly $215 million pledged funds. It shows that the secret to having a successful Kickstarter project is setting a realistic monetary goal and dedicating the right amount of campaigning days to spend on the site.

Interesting facts about KickStarter, the popular fundraising site. I have contributed to a few projects, but never think about what the failure rate of KickStarter projects is.
